Guitar Tab and Sheet Music for "The Night That Paddy Murphy Died"

This is a great drinking song and also a great funeral song, so naturally it’s perfect for Drink Me. It’s been recorded by a lot of different people but this is my favourite. Oh the night that Paddy Murphy died, is a night I’ll never forget Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain’t […]

This is Not My Beautiful House. This is Not My Beautiful Wife.

Do you ever get that feeling where you’re standing around in your own house and you suddenly think, “I live here” and that seems totally weird to you? Or you’re sitting with your feet up and you look down the stretch of your legs and go, “Wow, my legs are really long.” Or your parents […]

Perspective is Important

Single panel comic with the caption: "Philosophers are no longer allowed at environmental conferences." Picture shows a white-haired, bespectacled man standing a podium saying, "I'm not saying we SHOULD destroy the earth. I'm saying, IF WE DO it won't be 'sad' since the idea of sadness sonly exists in the minds of humans."

This is also why choosing the right POV for a story is so important. If you have the wrong perspective character you’ll end up telling the wrong story. Or, at least, a very different one.

Another Case of Do or Die

Cover for Example's album "Won't go quietly." Posed a series of mugshots with the artist alternatively saluting while wearing an astronaut's helmet, peering through backwards sunglasses, hiding behind his t-shirt, scratching his head, gnawing on the board, looking a little lost with lipstick on his cheek in the shape of lips, biting a piece of duct tape, talking through a megaphone and dressed in a onesie.

The video clip for this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense (although let’s be realistic, how many actually do?) and I love that the lyrics are… open to interpretation. Or, at least, I enjoy taking them far more literally than I am sure they are intended. She’s electric, she’s the current running through my […]

I Have an Issue With This Tradition

So I was driving past the bell tower in the city yesterday and I noticed they’ve put a big gold star on top like it’s a freakish glass and metal Christmas tree. Which, okay, fine. I’m cool with that. But given the scale of the tower the star is huge. Naturally, I started to ponder […]

Three panel cartoon featuring a penguin with a yellow beak. The penguin says: "I feel good... In fact, I feel great!" Then the penguin raises a flipper and does some impressive angry eyes and says: "And I am going to peck out the eyes of the first person who tells me it won't last."

Michelle Tanner (aged approximately three years old) in "Full House" saying, "You got it, dude" with a thumbs up.

This song has all of ten words in it and no official video clip, so just… close your eyes, hit play and enjoy the beat?

Liner notes of The Clash's album "London Calling" focusing on the lyrics to their song "Rudie Can't Fail"

At least half the time when I’m listening to this I mishear the lyric as, Rudy got bail. I have no adequate explanation for it. I am constantly rewriting the rest of the lyrics to fit them to that baseline though. And that’s always fun. How you get so rude and a reckless? Don’t you be […]

Text box that reads: Okay, okay we need a plot. Wait, no. No plot. That's the worst idea ever.

Me: I don’t really know how to write it… Actually I’m beginning to think that every book I write I’m going to start by saying, “Okay, I don’t do this but…” Arkem: I was about to say. Me: The last one turned out okay, though, right? I don’t write thrillers. (But the first real book-like-thing […]
