Three panel comic, first is an adult speaking to a child. Adult says, "Shoot for the moon." Second panel zooms in further on the adult who say, "and if you miss". Third panel is zoomed in so only the eyes of the man are visible. He says, "You'll die horribly in space." And there is a tiny picture of an astronaut floating free in the reflection of the man's glasses.

Today is not going well so far. So I thought instead of yelling at you guys (who are probably innocent, well, innocent of this) I would go and yell at the ceiling. It’s not its fault either but it’s very stoic and probably won’t fall on me if it gets in a snit. To distract you I […]

Where is My “Humanity For Dummies” Book?

The things I’ve done that worked the best were the things I was the least certain about, the stories where I was sure they would either work, or more likely be the kinds of embarrassing failures people would gather together and talk about until the end of time. They always had that in common: looking back […]

[Joss] Whedon will …. co-write the pilot to “Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D.” with Jed Whedon and Maurissa […]

Me: ….I’ll have you gagged, beaten bloody and then forced to dress as a mime so others will know to avoid you. Is that better? Rick: Yes. But maybe will know how much they need to avoid you? Me: No, that sounds awkward. Rick: Yeah, but, like the degree. Like there’s vagabond, man with a […]

The Writers Who Stare at Ceilings

I am… staring at the ceiling and trying to figure how the latter part of the book happens. I mean, I know what happens, but my original mini-synopsis is going to bring the book in about 20-40 000 words short of the length I want it to be. So I need to tweak it a […]

A tiled bathroom floor where most of the tiles are white but there are neat rows of black ones. Except in one spot which has been highlighted where the black tile is placed one space over, out of alignment with its fellows. Caption reads: Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I honestly don’t know if this drives me crazy or if I really like it. My OCD tendencies are at war with my love of individualism and object anthropomorphisation. I think I like it. Right now it’s making me smile. I’ll take that.

Arkem: You said something before that I thought should be addressed. You said you were writing. Possibly still are? Me: …yes. Arkem: Right. Then I wanted to make you aware of something. It’s Sunday. That’s a day when traditionally people don’t work. Me: Yes. Um. I couldn’t help it. You left me alone in the […]

Stories That Give You Options: Good or Bad or Just Driving Me Mad?

An artistic rendering of several scenes from the movie "Inception", showing incomplete images of the characters of Arthur and Eames in black and white, looking in opposite directions, a green-washed image of Arthur's back as he takes and emergency exit, and an image of Eames in full-snow gear and blizzard background firing a gun into the air. Caption read: Don't get any big ideas. They're not gonna happen.

The first time I watched Inception I wasn’t a big fan of it. I think because I’d seen the trailer and I loved the premise, so when I actually saw the movie I was disappointed that they didn’t spend a lot of time really exploring the possibilities inherent in the idea. A couple of years […]
