Life Isn’t a Card Game, it’s Fucking Russian Roulette

I have this worrying feeling that my characters are psychotic. At least, I keep threatening to kill them and they seem to like it. What’s with that? Honestly, it’s like the more dangerous it is, the better they feel about the situation. Like they find it easier to accept someone threatening to kill them than someone who said everything would be fine. Massive trust issues.

Which is a problem. Because, you know, they just met. And who trusts someone they’ve just met? Just because they’re staring at each other like it’s like love at first sight. I mean, really, they’re not falling in love, it’s just that they’d really like to… I don’t know, follow each other home and sit on the couch and stay up all night getting drunk and bitching about their father figures. But how do you get there from snarling at one another in a bar?

It’s a catch-22: they’d both love to have someone they trust, but they don’t trust enough to give someone that level of faith. The risk is too great.

But then… these boys have a bit of a thing for danger.

The only person who’s seen this part (other than me) says it’s reads like a dance — forward and back, and you’re always very formal when you’re dancing. I don’t know about formal but they’re sharing the alcohol…

Arkem: I’ve got the moves like Jagger.*
Me: Really? Do you?
Arkem: Oh yeah.
Me: You know that’s like my favourite song at the moment. Well, that or Bad Romance. …at least, they kind of define Wizards right now.
Arkem: Rad bromance.
Me: Exactly.

* Me: You realise I’m going to quote you on the internet now.
Arkem: Of course. Wait. ‘Of course’ was a bit flippant. Okay, Kandace, you can quote me on the internet. I understand and support your endeavours.
