I am off writing query letters today. Yes, I totally am. Shut up. I’m totally doing it. Right now. Okay, not right now. But like, in a minute. And in the meantime I am going to leave you with some things to entertain you.
In case you haven’t heard (although if you’re remotely interested you probably already have… actually there’s a catch-22 in there somewhere…) Joss Whedon made a surprise movie. An adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.
And while you’re thinking, Oh, Shakespeare, words are cool and you’re feeling the word love. Or if you just like laughing at the English language — go here. Try to read it. Out loud. It has to be out loud or it doesn’t count.
This. The wonderful song ‘Prejudice’ by Tim Minchin. Because it’s a truly genuine message. And then it’s ridiculous. It is ridiculously genuine. Oh come on, how many songs have the word ‘homophone’ in them?
Also, they are making a sequel to X-Men: First Class. Nobody is surprised. Although they’re getting someone different to write it. Yes, I know they do that kind of thing. But seriously.
Me: The wrong person is writing the sequel.
Rick: Michael Bay?
Me: (distinct pause) No. He’s not a writer. Although, now I’m picturing that. And it would be kind of awesome in a wrong and disturbing exploderific kind of way.
But honestly. Simon Kinberg. This is the guy responsible for X-Men 3: The Last Stand. What are they thinking?
And then… there is A Softer World. Which, let’s face it, I’m sure you’ve already heard of.
Arkem: A Softer World may be my favourite comic at the moment. I like it more than a little.
Me: Me too! I like it and then I like the remixes and I like it MORE. It is dark and creepy and twisted and uses WORDS. Words for humour! And you know how I feel about that sort of thing.
I love the original. I do. But the remixes. Cue the hilarity. Personally I think the Doctor Who riffs work the best (I mean, there’s one about jingle sharks for heavens sakes) . But if you’re not Who inclined, there’s Sherlock, White Collar, Harry Potter, X-Men… Seriously. Have a fandom preference, google the remix. It seems to exist in a zillion different forms.

To be fair on Mr Kinberg, I don’t think the final X3 had any writer! They may have started with his script, but methinks the director thought, halfway through, ‘let’s try something different…’
And then there were all those over corrections!

I am prepared to accept that studios, directors and producers can entirely mess up an originally excellent script. They also had weird casting issues and so on. I’m not saying it’ll necessarily be a disaster. I really hope it isn’t. I’m just a lot more nervous about it than I was before I had this information.

Your brain jumps around rather a lot, doesn’t it? Go write your query letters already. I’m going to eat chocolate & peanut butter brownies and watch some Christopher Eccleston era Doctor Who, because the baby wants chocolate and sedentary hyperactivity. You should come and eat toasted sandwiches with me again some time, I’ll probably be up to the David Tennant seasons in a couple of days if you’d like to join me 🙂

It really does.
Tennant is good… but I am drowning a little bit in work this week. Still, you’ve got seasons and seasons of Who still to go. Maybe next week?

There are a lot of strange comments on here.
